durban beach front challenge 6 DEC 2020

BREAK THOSE COVID BLUES

It's been a difficult year for most of us with the Covid 19 Lockdown. Staying at home, covering our faces, losing jobs and so much more. For those who love running we have also had to bear that itch that wants us to get out there and fly particularly in a group where we can test ourselves against others and against ourselves. So at Honey Trails we realised this. we opened our trails 7 days a week now. It got us thinking; lets create something for runners that we can make truly epic. A real race. A race where the best man or woman on the day will win. Something that could become a legendary race for Durban. "The Durban Beach Front Challenge."

DURBAN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Of course it is, there is no question for us Durbanites. Cape Town has Table Mountain but after that what can it offer. We have the most beautiful golden wide arcing beach that disappears into the misty spray of  the warm Indian Ocean. We have at one end of our beach the harbour mouth with ships coming and going but more importantly the green natural wonder of the Bluff towering above us as we view those ships. At the other end of our famous beaches we have the Umgeni River exiting into the sea popularly known as Blue Lagoon. Really a spectical without compare

SO LET'S RACE

Yes don't hesitate, book now and make this race the race of 2020. The one we can talk about for years to come, the one that started the race to find the King and Queen of The Beach Front Promenade Race Challenge. Who will be the record holder and for how long? Let's make Durban proud and show the rest of the country our beautiful city.

LETS LOOK AT THE DETAILS.

  • 1. DATE AND TIME. 6 December 2020 at 6 am sharp for the 16/17km and 6.10 am for the 8km on the beach in front of Parking B Ushaka Marine World (south side).  Please be there at least 30 mins before to finalise your registration.
  • 2.  DIRECTIONS. Go past the main Parking A as if going toward the harbour. Turn left at the end of Parkade A into Camperdown Rd then right into Timeball Blvd then left into Browns Rd and left into Seine Rd. Parking B is on your right with the south side of Ushaka in front of you. Proceed to the beach.
  • 3. THE ROUTE.  16/17km. The race starts on the beach heading south first to the harbour entrance. Official use of the New Promenade has been an issue due to some technical issues and as at the time of writing this clarity is still being sought however we may get special consent to use it otherwise it will be on the beach. Then still pending is whether the harbour master will open North Pier to us which will bring the total distance to 17km if allowed. So we will turn at one of these points and race to the Umgeni River going around the car park and under the highway bridge and along the banks of the Umgeni for about 500m where we will turn and turn on the pace till the end.
  • 4. The 8km starts at the same place but heads immediately North on the Promenade for 4km until the beginning of SunCoast from where we will return to the start.
  • 5. One water table will be provided at SunCoast.
  • 6. Cost R120 for both the 8km and the 16/17 km as the infrastructure is almost the same whether you run either one and the prize money is the same for both.
